Indiana Commission for Women Holding Final Listening Session in Portage

The indiana-workforce-developmentIndiana Commission for Women (ICW), co-sponsored by Michigan City Councilwoman Pat Boy, will hold its final listening session of its Hoosier INSight: Women’s Issues Listening Session in Portage, Indiana, on May 19, 2011. ICW conducted listening sessions throughout Indiana in order to better prioritize the issues affecting women and to begin establishing a statewide shared action plan to address these needs. The range of issues that affect women can be overwhelming. Many things have an impact on the lives of women, but their unique needs are often overlooked in our communities and our state.

“It is our hope that we will be able to engage the women and men of our state in public deliberation so that we can find real and positive solutions to the challenges that women face everyday and can continue to move Indiana women forward,” said Kristin Garvey, executive director of the Indiana Commission for Women. “ICW’s Hoosier INsight project gives Hoosiers an opportunity to voice their concerns and encourages collaboration between organizations so that we can work together to better meet the needs of women.”

Topics of discussion:

  • What are the issues affecting women in your community?
  • Which issues are in most need of immediate attention?
  • What is currently being done to address the issues?
  • How can we improve or expand existing programs?
  • What else should be done?
  • Who should be involved?
