Industrial Revolution Eatery and Grille is an American joint with a flair for the original. Donning iron bars and statues, the building itself is a testament to the craftsmanship that goes into each meal. The restaurant puts that same craftsmanship into specialized meals as well, meaning vegetarians and those needing gluten-free options can come out and still enjoy some amazing food.
When passing over the menu, it’s easy to see that burgers are a big hit for the restaurant. Meat-eaters don’t get to have all the fun of a mouthwatering burger though. There is also a black bean burger option, allowing any burger on the menu to be substituted and made vegetarian friendly. They're also working hard to ensure a great meal for everyone and now boast an extensive gluten-free menu.
Jennifer Leeson, Owner and Director of Operations, said the restaurant offers exceptional salads and the opportunity to customize entrees for special dietary likes or needs.
A popular choice is the Rosie the Riveter Salad, which features fresh spinach and a house-made blueberry vinaigrette dressing, sprinkled with mushrooms and red onion, dried cranberries, and home-made candied pecans. They also serve a Mill Chop Chicken Cobb Salad, with romaine lettuce, hardboiled egg, avocado, tomato, cucumber, onion, cherrywood smoked bacon, blue cheese crumbles, grilled chicken, and ranch dressing.
Leeson said Industrial Revolution strives to offer hearty options that are also healthy. In planning and prepping the elaborate gluten-free menu, which includes desserts and kid-friendly options, staff know that just having a gluten-free crust or bun doesn’t mean the item itself comes out gluten-free.
“A small amount of gluten can make a person who is truly gluten-intolerant sick, so we take special precautions to avoid any cross contamination with our gluten-free options,” Lesson said.
Industrial Revolution utilizes a separate oven to bake their gluten-free pizzas, and ensures that separate cutting boards, utensils, and spatulas are used during food preparation.
In addition, Lesson said cooks retrieve fresh ingredients from the walk-in cooler for every gluten-free order to avoid cross contamination. Cooks change gloves, wash hands, change an apron, and we even change how they carry food to patrons.
“We put a lot of thought and emphasis on being food safe so those who need gluten free food can trust what we are serving,” she said, adding that everything is made fresh daily, starting with raw ingredients so they can control anything that goes into an order.
With a scratch kitchen, their ability to cater to customer needs is limited only by the foods they have in stock. Gluten-free spirits are an option, too.
Lesson said the restaurant carries a few ciders on draft or in bottle, and keeps some gluten-free beer and different liquors handy as well.
Having a dietary restriction can be a stressful burden, making it difficult to find food choices to cater to that need. Industrial Revolution strives to cater to many and create an atmosphere that allows everyone to enjoy their meal.
