With only a high school diploma, McLean pumped gas to save enough money to purchase a second hand pickup truck and started hauling goods for people.
After 20 years of watching how inefficient and expensive shipping things across country was, he invented and patented the metal shipping container.
This new shipping method revolutionized freight worldwide and intern reduced shipping costs for the end user by up to 90%. We salute Malcolm McLean for his innovations in transforming the entire global shipping industry into what it is today and being named "the man of the century" for his accomplishments.
