It’s Difficult to Be Lonely at Ladies Night!

Tuesday night, Avalon Springs Health Campus hosted the Ultimate Ladies Night Out for women throughout the community to celebrate their roles as women today. With the weather being as blustery and snowy as it's been, the event welcomed women out of the cold with warmth, fun, and festivities in Avalon Springs' assisted living community, the Residence.

Surrounded by area vendors and munching on hors d'oeuvres, those who gathered got the chance to sample and see a lot of women from different walks of life, experience various services, and feast their eyes on local treasures.

Jennifer Young, Community Service Representative at Avalon Springs Health Campus, says she and the team at Avalon Springs love their role in the community and thoroughly enjoy events during which they get to give back. This particular event was conceived in the idea that modern women need to be united and to get to know each other better –whatever their personal role may be.

"They're wives, they're mothers, they're friends trying to find two seconds just to breathe sometimes. So we wanted to celebrate them tonight and especially a lot of the ladies that came are caregivers. And the great thing about coming to Avalon Springs is that they know that if they are a caretaker, they can bring their loved one that's stuck in the house and maybe hasn't been out for quite some time. We've seen a lot of ladies bring them. She can come and have a great time and we'll unite together," Young said.

Walking around the residence, the power of the planning was evident and the goal achieved: children were jogging along, getting snacks and sneaking to loved ones, residents smiled to see their community come inside to see them and their home, vendors set their tables nicely, and ladies milled about the room, happy for a rest from the everyday.

Being together in a room full of women present to represent many generations was an incredible feeling. Seeing the looks on the faces of women seldom get out to shop browsing through vendors' wares was heartening. Sampling the tasty food from Avalon Springs's kitchen was a joy for all! The safe and welcoming environment seemed to bring a full house to the event, which was pretty neat!

Laura Certa, another Community Service Representative at Avalon Springs, has a slightly different – but related – take on why this event is important for the community.

"I think people have a very preconceived notion of what assisted living and long-term care looks like and getting them into the campus to see how beautiful it is and what this can look like for them or for their loved ones is very important because it, I think, dispels a lot of myths," Certa said.

Indeed, Avalon Springs Health Campus's Ultimate Ladies Night Out was made more ultimate by the women who came out to the event on such a cold night! With Valentine's Day just around the corner, pink and red decorations adorned the walls and made for a festive backdrop for a fun and quick getaway to be surrounded by a community of female friends! Plenty of women took treating themselves into their own hands and let's not forget the importance of delicious snacks from the candy buffet, complimentary d'oeuvres, and wine tastings!

Is all of this sounding good to you? Awesome! Community Service Representatives Young and Certa say they plan to continue to provide community events at Avalon Springs quarterly, if not more often. Coming up is a spring cleaning event in March and their anniversary celebration in May to celebrate two years in the Valpo community. To stay up-to-date, stay tuned to ValpoLife!
