IU La Porte Health President Provides Good Example as Coach for a Day

Coach-for-a-day-2On Wednesday evening Thor Thordarson, President and CEO of IU Health, La Porte Hospital was honored as Purdue North Central Basketball Coach for a Day.

PNC’s Annual Fund Coordinator, Tom Albano explained, “From time to time we like to honor our biggest sponsors, and IU Health is a very important sponsor.”

Thordarson joined PNC coaches and team on the sidelines as they took on Judson College. The game was intense, and Thordarson was excited for the experience.

Coach-for-a-day-1“I like all kinds of sports,” Thordarson said. “It’s fun to see what happens behind the scenes, in the locker room, and from the ground floor see the action, see the intensity.”

IU Health, La Porte Hospital is a huge supporter of PNC for a couple of main reasons. Firstly, IU Health employs quite a few PNC graduates at La Porte Hospital. Thordarson explained that it is important to them to maintain a pool of well-educated and highly qualified nurses and staff to help them provide quality healthcare to the local community. He also mentioned that sports are a specific interest because the hospital is interested in promoting health through activity and fitness.

Coach-for-a-day-3“We’d like to see the community take a more active role in their own health by being fit, eating right, and being active,” Thordarson said.

The game was a tough one, and at half-time it was easy to see that spirits were low among the team.

Thordarson saw this as an opportunity to be Coach for the Day, “The kids are trying hard,” he explained. “And hopefully there is some nugget of wisdom I can transmit to them that is of some use.”
