IU Northwest Announces Poetry Slam, Video Competitions

iun2Inspiration to come from ‘The House on Mango Street’, the One Book…One Campus…One Community reading initiative

Indiana University Northwest invites the campus, and local community members, to participate in a Poetry Slam Competition and a Video Competition, inspired by the themes and learning points found in The House of Mango Street, the selected novel for the annual One Book…One Campus…One Community reading initiative.

The House on Mango Street, a highly acclaimed book written in a series of vignettes, is the story of a young girl, Esperanza Cordero, growing up in a primarily Latino neighborhood of Chicago.

November 16: Poetry Slam Competition

As an individual, or as a small group, enter a Poetry Slam Competition that will take place at the IU Northwest campus from 2 until 7 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 16 in the Bruce W. Bergland Auditorium.

Basic rules

  • Poet(s) have three minutes (plus a ten-second grace period) to read one poem.
