The Indiana University Northwest campus and the greater Northwest Indiana community are invited to view the latest art exhibit, entitled, ‘He Says – She Says, a dialogue between people.’ The featured work, which the artists say is a ying-yang exhibit of opposites, is located in the IU Northwest Gallery for Contemporary Art, located in the Savannah Center.
The artwork is one of the latest collections from artists Bill Farrell and Delores Fortuna of Galena, Ill. Both artists will be present at the gallery reception scheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 19 from noon until 2 p.m. The event is free and open to the campus community and the public.
“Bill Farrell creates smooth organic-shaped objects, while Delores Fortuna creates geometric hard edged pieces,” said Art Gallery Director Ann Fritz. “Bill’s color pallet is mainly dark grays to black and Delores is white. Bill’s art can do without shadows, while Delores’s work is complimented by the shadows.”
Fritz explained that the artists have unique processes for creating their work.
“Bill forces the clay through an extruder, then shapes the clay into an abstract form,” she said. “On parts or all, he adds a coating of rubber, which softens the work. Delores has spent years of trial and error in perfecting an almost impossible process of firing porcelain and wire together without falling apart.”
The exhibit will come to a close on Saturday, Feb. 5.
The IU Northwest Gallery for Contemporary Art is open to the public Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. until 7 p.m., Friday from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m., and Saturday from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m.
The gallery is located in the Savannah Center neighboring the IU Northwest Book Store.
The mission of the IU Northwest Gallery for Contemporary Art is to present an innovative exhibition program that complements and enhances the university's academic offerings.
Exhibit art collections are for study and research, and are also meant to educate the university community, as well as the general public, about the forms and issues of contemporary and historic art from all cultures.
