IU Northwest Plans Career-Focused Events for Alumni, Community

Alumni Association’s ‘Life After IU’ series will help young professionals hone their skills, network

rot1The Office of Alumni Relations at Indiana University Northwest, together with the IU Alumni Association and the Office of Career Services, has planned a season of career-focused events designed to help professionals succeed.

Leadership Lessons: “Become the CEO of Your Own Career”

Whether you are a student, a young professional or an experienced careerist, you should take control of your career and life destiny so it doesn’t happen by default. This session is full of valuable professional lessons applicable to everyone. Learn the importance of playing to your strengths and honoring your passions. Discover effective strategies to ramp up your professional presence, communication skills and self-confidence. This high-energy session is full of valuable take-aways and easy-to-use actions steps to help you make the most of your career and your life. Give yourself permission to define success on your own terms and be your own Chief Executive Officer.

Caroline Dowd-Higgins is the director of Professional Enrichment for the IU Alumni Association and a nationally known career expert. She has authored the book and maintains the blog, “This is Not the Career I Ordered” which showcases her savvy professional development advice. She maintains a career and executive coaching practice and speaks nationally on professional development topics.

Emili Sperling is the Alumni Programs Officer for Student and Recent Graduate Enrichment at Indiana University. An emerging leader who is passionate about empowering Gen Y with tools to ramp up their professional careers, Sperling speaks nationally about the power of Millennials in the workforce. Her presentation will help young professionals impress, guiding them through the elements of etiquette in the most common professional settings. From utensils to handshakes to tipping, you’ll be a polished Hoosier.
