IU Northwest’s Dexter and Zandstra honored as 2014-15 Daktronics-NAIA DII Basketball Scholar-Athletes

iun2The National Association of the Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) has announced that IU Northwest's Justin Dexter and Danielle Zandstra were amongst the 130 Division II men’s basketball student-athletes and the 255 Division II women’s basketball student-athletes that have been named 2014-15 Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athletes. In order to be nominated a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and must have achieved a junior academic status.

Dexter a senior forward and team captain from Demotte, IN is a criminal justice major and carries a remarkable 3.91GPA. Dexter appeared in 27 games this season and has been a solid contributor to the program throughout his entire collegiate career. He played in his final IU Northwest basketball game on February 19, 2015, helping his team earn their final victory of the season on senior night!

Zandstra a senior forward from Crete, IL is an elementary education major and carries an outstanding 3.58GPA. Zandstra started 29 games and appeared in all 31 games for the RedHawks this season. She averaged 10.7ppg and led the team in rebounding (9.9rpg) and block shots (3.29bpg). Zandstra was named the 2014-15 A.I.I. Defensive Player of the Year. She finished the season ranked #4 in Blocks per game and #5 in Total blocks (102) by the NAIA.
