IU Northwest to Hold Blood Drive on September 11

rot1The Student Alumni Association (SAA) and Office of Alumni Relations at Indiana University Northwest are rallying to restock the shelves at area blood banks with a blood drive from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 11 in the Moraine Student Center, located on the north end of the IU Northwest campus in Gary.

Each day, the American Red Cross needs 15,000 blood donations to meet the needs of patients at approximately 2,700 hospital and transfusion centers across the country. Every blood donation could help save up to three lives and give hope to patients and their families. A single donated unit of blood can help save up to three lives. According to the American Red Cross, an estimated 38 percent of the U.S. population is eligible to donate, but less than 10 percent actually do each year.

To sign up for the American Red Cross blood drive, visit www.redcrossblood.org and enter sponsor code “iun” to schedule an appointment. First-time donors will need to create a profile. Returning donors can log in by entering their e-mail address and date of birth as the default password.

At the blood drive, donors will receive an email coupon for a free haircut at participating Sport Clips. The coupon will be emailed to donors by the American Red Cross within seven days of the blood drive and can be redeemed at participating Sport Clips locations through November 9. No paper coupons will be available for this promotion. To find a location near you, visit www.sportclips.com. The closest location to IU Northwest is 1519 US Hwy 41 Suite B10 in Schererville.
