IU Northwest Welcomes Congressman Visclosky to Awareness Event for TRIO Student Support Services September 5

rot1The Indiana University Northwest TRIO Student Support Services Office will honor program participants and the National 50th Anniversary of the TRIO program during its Inaugural Fall Kickoff Event from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Friday, Sept. 5 in Hawthorn Hall, Room 221.

The campus and community are invited to this free event which features United States Congressman Pete Visclosky, First Congressional District of Indiana, Chancellor William J. Lowe, and the Office of TRIO Student Support Services.

During this event, Congressman Visclosky and Chancellor Lowe will speak with TRIO program participants and acknowledge the importance of the TRIO program, which has helped many first- generation college students graduate from U.S. college for the past 50 years. The TRIO Student Support Services staff at IU Northwest wishes to recognize program participants for making the decision to pursue a bachelor’s degree and improve their lives.

The TRIO Student Support Services Program at IU Northwest is instrumental in helping students with disabilities, as well as students from low-income families. The U.S. Department of Education awarded IU Northwest $303,702 for the 2010-2015 award period. This award has helped the TRIO Student Support Services program provides support to students through tutoring services, academic advising and various academic programs. Students also attend workshops that focus on financial literacy and participate in activities that promote cultural enrichment.
