On Wednesday, Sept. 30, Indiana University Northwest will host a rhythmic diversity event that challenges participants to examine life in a profoundly new and interesting way. “D-Village” is a two-hour experiential program that incorporates the rich metaphors of the drum circle into a hands-on experience that leads to a powerful, enlivening and non-threatening examination of diversity issues.
No prior musical experience is necessary to participate in this program. Drums will be provided for everyone. The Drum Circle will be held in the Moraine Quad from 11:30 a.m. until 12:45 p.m. The subsequent “empowerment training” will be held from 2:30 p.m. until 3:45 p.m. in the Robin R. Hass Birky Memorial Women’s Center (Savannah 207).
“D-Village” was developed by facilitator Christine Stevens in collaboration with diversity expert Dr. Mark Benn. It has been a featured workshop and all-conference event at The National Conference on Race and Ethnicity for three years.
