Ivy Tech’s 2nd Annual Writing/Art Contest Winners

Ivy Tech Community College announced the winner’s of their second annual writing/art contest today. This year’s theme was community. Students were asked to write a creative piece, academic essay or submit a picture of their art. The winners and top submissions will be published in Ivy Tech’s journal, Off the Lake, this fall.

Over sixty submissions were received. A first, second and third place winner was chosen from each category. The winners are:

Creative writing: 1st place: The Pebble by Christopher P. Klocek; 2nd place: My Bubble by Amanda Bruck; 3rd place: The Face of My Community by Willie Mae Wilburn.

Academic writing: 1st place: How Computer Mediated Communication Has Expanded Our Definition of Community by Valerie Ball; 2nd place: Creating a Society of Entitlement by Patricia Edwards; 3rd place: The Nation’s New Poor by Michele Kaufman.

Art: 1st place: Floatin’ on the Wave of Change by Dalton Lee Hawks; 2nd place: My Community by Laura Peidle; 3rd place: Perfection by Veronica Lain. Hawks work will serve as the cover art for the 2009 edition of Off the Lake.

The first place winners of each category had the privlidge of joining Ivy Tech’s Chancellor, J. Guadalupe Valtierra at the chancellor’s breakfast!
