Ivy Tech’s Learn Anywhere program offers students week-to-week flexibility

This year, Ivy Tech Community College Valparaiso launched their Learn Anywhere program, a new course delivery option that provides students week-to-week flexibility on attending class in-person or online.

It is available for a wide variety of professional development courses and certificate programs, ranging from art and design, to health and education. Though its launch last fall was accelerated due to an increased demand for virtual learning due to COVID-19, Learn Anywhere was initially designed as a way to support single moms. Now, it is available for anyone looking for safety, convenience, and flexibility.

“I very much was, and still am, a traditional student,” said Timothy Stewart, who is studying nursing, healthcare support, and liberal arts at Ivy Tech Valparaiso. “I never thought I’d like Learn Anywhere, but it has the aspects of a traditional class in a more relaxing situation. It’s really advantageous for the older students trying to balance life and school at the same time.”

Stewart noted that he was particularly impressed with how well Ivy Tech Valparaiso’s instructors adapted to the new format.

“Having instructors that are understanding of the always-changing situation is one of the greatest aspects of this school,” he said. “They’re always willing to talk about the material and help students comprehend it. Some will set-up additional time for students. There are also supplemental instructors who have been through it all before, and can give a different perspective on a subject, which is just what some students need to absorb their course material.”

Paul Shook, another Ivy Tech Valparaiso student, enrolled himself in MATH 221. As a Learn Anywhere course, it was available online – but Shook started out the semester traditionally.

“I always attended in-person while the others in the class attended online,” he said. “I was the only one always attending in-person, although there were some other students who sometimes attended in-person.”

Things stayed that way until the week after Thanksgiving break, when he shifted to virtual learning.

“I think this class was the most successful that I ever took during the Fall 2020 semester,” he said. “I am looking forward to taking the MATH 222 class during spring of this year.”

t’s not too late to enroll in classes at Ivy Tech this spring. More courses begin this March. To learn more about Ivy Tech Community College Valparaiso and to see the full array of Learn Anywhere course options, visit https://www.ivytech.edu/.
