James Arthur Deu (June 11, 1939 – July 9, 2022)

With sorrowful hearts, we announce the peaceful passing of James Arthur Deu.  After battling health issues for years, his resilient and exciting life came to an end surrounded by his family on July 9, 2022.

Jim married Geraldine Carol Movchan on July 12, 1969. They had six children:  Donna (Tim) Hoftiezer, Jim (Kelly) Deu, Robert (Tina) Deu, Debby Deu, Tim (Jenny) Deu, Missy (Josh) Adams.  He is also survived by 16 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.  Poppy truly loved being a grand and great grandparent!

His hobbies included attending his grandchildren’s activities, gardening, reading, Valparaiso High School football, and of course conversation.

Born June 11, 1939, to Julia and Edward Deu (both preceded) in Valparaiso, IN. Jim was also preceded in death by siblings, Mahlon and Marilyn.  He is survived by sisters, Judy McCaskill and Jan Kelly.

Jim’s passion for life radiated through his big boisterous voice, sailor’s grin, and heartwarming laugh. Those near and far knew it well. Always the loudest in the room, Jim’s voice was a siren of joy, comfort, and blunt honesty. He acknowledged and treated all people with his signature jovial hellos and sincere goodbyes that consisted of massive bear hugs and a firm kiss on the cheek or lips.  His kindness and love extended beyond the boundaries of his immediate family, but each night he made sure to tell his children he loved them and give his wife a kiss.  The world is undoubtedly quieter without Jim, but the tornado of vocal love he created will forever live through all those touched.  His relentless work ethic ensured a roof over his family and warm meals each night. Jim never missed a chance to sing off key each morning and to “be there”. He unquestionably left the world a better place.  His voice will always resonate in his family’s laughs and playful banter.  He left an endless love and legacy to choose joy over hate

There is nothing Jim enjoyed more than a gathering of the people he loved.  A celebration of life will be Saturday, July 16, 2022; 11am-1pm at Cornerstone Community Church (605 South Maple St, Knouts, IN  46347).

In lieu of flowers, donations can made to Riley Children’s Foundation.
