The long-standing, adult-oriented event series happens every Wednesday throughout the summer from 5–10 p.m., with opportunities for guests to unwind mid-week while enjoying brilliant sounds from local jazz talent in a relaxed aquarium setting, with food and drink to purchase and a front row seat to Chicago’s dynamic skyline and Navy Pier’s weekly fireworks display.
“There’s no better way to kick off the season than by inviting our neighbors to experience the wonder of Jazzin’ at the Shedd on us,” said Meghan Curran, senior vice president of marketing, sales and guest relations. “Each Wednesday has a completely different feel, with new musical talent, pop-up animal encounters, informal science chats and a rotating menu of new drinks and bites to try. We look forward to hosting guests throughout the summer season for Chicago’s only aquatic mid-week unwind party.”
This year, Shedd has also introduced a new ticket price for Chicago residents at $19.95. Passes to Jazzin’ for Chicago residents and non-Chicago residents ($24.95) both include full access to the aquarium, meaning guests can unplug from the weekly grind in several ways – from coming eye-to-eye with a beluga whale to touching the velvet back of a cownose ray. This access includes the popular outdoor Stingray Touch habitat and Shedd’s new special exhibit, Underwater Beauty.
Attendees can also chat with Shedd researchers and scientists in an informal setting at Shedd’s Science Pubs, where experts will share stories about their latest work, greatest successes, ongoing challenges and ways the public can get involved to make an impact for aquatic life. These chats will happen at two Jazzin’s each month.
As in previous years, the event series brings in new and existing jazz talent from across Chicago and the nearby region, providing a unique experience every Wednesday of the summer. A full list of performers can be found on Shedd’s website.
Cocktails and food are available for purchase all night, adding to the ambiance of the adult-friendly evenings. At the end of the night, guests can take in Navy Pier’s spectacular weekly fireworks display on the aquarium’s terrace on the lake.
For an upgraded experience, guests can pay just $20 more ($44.95 total) to end their night with a Shoreline cruise on the lake, getting them and even better view of the weekly dazzling fireworks.
