The familiar white and blue logo of Culver’s symbolizes many things to region residents, a place to celebrate little league wins, a pit stop on the long trip ahead, or just a spot to grab a burger and shake before you head out into the world. No matter the reason, when customers stop at Culver’s they are always greeted by the warm, friendly faces of the staff. Included in those faces at Culver’s of Valparaiso is Crew Chief Joe Powell, who is guaranteed to make anyone’s visit a great one.
Celebrating his sixth year at the restaurant, Powell knows that his positive attitude and involvement is what makes him stand out to his staff and management.
“My willingness to step up and do what is necessary is what makes me stand out,” said Powell.
Powell’s willingness to step up and take on difficult tasks is what has gained him a lot of respect among his fellow crew members. The ability to interact with guests of Culver’s and crew members is among his favorite part of the job.
“I really like the people I work with as well as the people we serve,” explained Powell. “They’re all pretty great!”
It might be surprising to some that this is Powell’s first job as he seems to have a firm grasp on what it takes to succeed and best serve the customer. Before he started working at Culver’s though, Powell first had to get to the Region.
“I lived in Illinois as a kid and then I moved to Portage for a year before settling here,” said Powell
When asked how he managed to handle moving around, Powell stated, “I just am good at adapting to where I am. It doesn’t matter where I am, I’ll make do.”
Perhaps that type of thinking is also what makes Powell so well-equipped to handle the work each day at Culver’s. No matter what is thrown his way, Powell greets it with his trademark forwardness and work effort.
