Jose Martinez, Sales Consultant at Thomas KIA in Highland, has been a with the dealership for almost three years. In that time, he has built lasting relationships with clients and his coworkers in a work environment that encourages teamwork and camaraderie.
Born in Hammond, Indiana, Martinez attended Hammond High School. After graduating, he went on to study at Indiana University in Bloomington where he received a Bachelor’s degree in Merchandising in 2013. Martinez’s career in sales started three years ago when he began working at Thomas KIA.
“Sales is something I just kind of fell into,” he explained. “But so far it has worked out well and I have really enjoyed it.”
Thomas KIA in Highland is the oldest KIA dealership in the state of Indiana and has the largest volume of vehicles in the region. And as a sales consultant, Martinez helps customers every day find a car perfect for their needs, all for the best deal.
“My day-to-day is different, which is something I really love,” he said. “But generally, I work with customers in search of a new car, setting up appointments, working deals, and really just staying in touch with clients.”
Customer service has always been important to Martinez and having the opportunity to work for a company that values customers rather than their checkbooks has been vital to his career with Thomas KIA.
“One thing I really love about working for this company is that I get to meet so many new people from different walks of life,” Martinez explained. “We get to know clients here; we see them as people we can get to know rather than seeing them as just another number.”
Along with meeting new people every day, Martinez loves the work environment and how close knit the Thomas KIA team is.
“Another thing I love about this corporation and family is how close everyone is,” he said. “Over the last few years, I’ve really gotten to know my coworkers and we have really become a small little family.”
When Martinez isn’t working with customers and helping them find the best deal for a new KIA, he loves to play golf and spend time with his five-year old daughter.
“I love to golf, probably a little too much,” Martinez joked. “But most of my time is spent with my daughter, so I guess that’s what I really love to do.”
Three years ago Jose Martinez started a new venture in sales with Thomas KIA in Highland. The venture has paid off and has helped put the dealership on the map as one that cares for its clients and employees.
“Like I said, we’ve become a family, even with our clients,” Martinez said. “We get to know our people here and that has been really great.”
