Ghoulish gals and mysterious creatures gathered at the Family Fall-fest in Valparaiso, held by Journey Senior Living. This haunted home was filled with delights, fun, and was a frighteningly good time!
Journey Senior Living opened their doors to the community for fun and tours of the residency. There were a variety of fall treats such as cotton candy, popcorn, candied apples, and Halloween themed cakes.
"It's nice to see exactly what they have here and for my grand kids to have a little fun," attendee Krista Krstulovic said.
There were many activities; from face painting, jumbo Jenga, bag toss, to turkey kids crafts.
The children were entertained by magician Jeff Jay who played with fire. Jay has been doing magic for the past 2o years.
"I always loved magic ever since my grandfather showed me some magic tricks. I told my parents that I wanted to be a magician when I grow up and they said 'I had to pick one or the other,' and I decided to do both,” Jay said. “I like to get in front of the public to entertain kids, from 5 to 105!"
Tiffany Anderson, Marketing Director at Journey Senior Living, was excited to host the fun event and was dressed as a southern cowgirl for the festivities.
"This event gives our residents the opportunity to come out, enjoy the fall season, and all the fun things that come along with fall! We love to host festive events, such as this, because we really are a fun senior citizen community," Anderson said. “The residents can't always get out to enjoy the Fall festivals downtown so Journey Senior Living brings the fun to them! There's no better feeling than helping our residents create great memories in their home."
Corporal Brian Gill of Porter County, stopped by to give the crowd a demonstration with his adorable partner, Bumpus the dog. Bumpus, a pure breed bloodhound dog loved meeting the children.
"I love doing these types of things for the community especially with Bumpus, I'm more than happy to do this for the community," said Corporal Gill.
Life Enrichment Director, Barbara Dudley, wore many hats, being in charge of the popcorn, apple cider, and hot chocolate with spooky sprinkles. Dudley's passion is learning about the residents and planning fun activities for them.
"I think it's wonderful and important for the residents to have the community to come into their home and see what it's like," Dudley said. “To many residents, Journey Senior Living is their beloved home.”
"We try to make it as home-like as possible. People can come to look at our facility to see what we have to offer. It makes our residents feel good, and they like seeing staff with costumes on." Dudley said.
