June Rain Barrel Workshops Scheduled

recycleDue to the popularity of its spring rain barrel workshops, the Recycling and Waste Reduction District of Porter County has scheduled four additional rain barrel workshops later this month. Porter County residents are invited to attend to learn more about the benefits of rain barrels, how to use them, and proper location and installation.

Workshops will be held at 6 p.m. each night; Tuesdays and Wednesdays, June 21, 22, 28 and 29, at Sunset Hill Farm County Park, 775 Meridian Road, Valparaiso. The cost of $45 for the workshop includes a rain barrel with spigot and linking and overflow fitting. Additional rain barrels can be ordered at the time of online registration. Pre-registration and advance payment is required for each workshop.

Rain Barrels are an efficient, low-cost method for collecting rainwater to water your indoor and outdoor plants,” said Therese Davis, executive director of the district. Each workshop space is limited to 50 attendees. Online registration has already begun on the district website www.itmeanstheworld.org.

The deadline for registration and payment for the June 21 and 22 workshops is June 15; the deadline for registration and payment for the June 28 and 29 workshops is June 22.

Participants must attend the workshop in a vehicle large enough to bring home their 50 gallon rain barrels.
