The Valpo Parks Department has instructional opportunities for juniors of all skill levels. Classes are instructed by Nancy Bender, LPGA teaching professional at Creekside Golf Course and Training Center 2355 Clifford Road in Valparaiso.
Masters Academy
A skill progressive class for beginners ages 12-16. Instruction is delivered in 3, two-hour classes: the full swing, short game, and on course experience. Tuition is $90 per session or $30 per class, plus range balls. Pre-registration required.
July Sessions:
1) July 8, 10, 12 Monday, Wednesday, Friday 2 pm
2) July 22, 24, 26 Monday, Wednesday, Friday 3 pm
Target Academy
A skill progressive class for beginners, ages 9 – 11 introducing them to short and long game skills plus play on the course. Tuition is $60 per session or $30 per class, plus range balls. July Classes are on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3 to 5 PM on the following dates: July 9 and 11; July 16 and 18; July 23 and 25.
Linkster Academy
A one hour skill progressive class for beginners, ages 6-8. July classes are on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays at 2 PM in July, for a price of $15 a class plus range balls.
Lil’ Tigers Academy
A 45-minute class for youth accompanied by an adult is for ages 3-5 with adult playing free. Price is $15 per 45 minute class on Tuesdays and Saturdays at 1 PM from July 2-30.
The First Tee Sessions For July
Youth learn life skill and character lessons while learning the game of golf. Appropriate for ages 7 – 12, each session is 10 hours plus time on the course, with players divided into group based on age. Tuition is $110 for the session which runs July 15 –19 at Noon to 2 PM each day. Pre-registration is required.
Youth Golf Skills Competition at the Creekside Classic
Six different skill competitions for Juniors age 12 and under take place on Thursday, July 18. Juniors compete within their age division: 8 and under; 9 and 10, and then age 11 and 12. Skills competition starts at 10 AM and concludes with awards and lunch. Register by Monday, July 15th. Competition fee and lunch is $30 per junior.
