Kelsey’s Tip A Cop Program a Huge Success

valpopoliceLast night officers from the Valparaiso Police Department waited tables at Kelsey’s Steak House in Valparaiso to raise money for the Gang Resistance Education and Training Program (G.R.E.A.T.).

The G.R.E.A.T. program is taught to all 7th graders in the Valparaiso School System. The program is designed to warn students about, gangs, drugs, alcohol, bullying and negative peer pressures. The classes are taught by School Resource Officer Steve Jackson of the Valparaiso Police Department.

A total of 16 representatives from the police department participated in the event including 8 police officers, which included Chief of Police Michael Brickner and Asst. Chief Rich Spicer. Four civilian members of the department participated along with four members of the Volunteers in Police Service Program (V.I.P.S.).

A total of $2400 was raised from the event which included a check for $500 from Kelsey’s Steak House. The Valparaiso Police Department would like to thank all who donated to the program last night and especially thank Kelsey’s Steak House for sponsoring the event!
