Kids Play Dodgeball for Healthy Hearts

Members of the Boys and Girls Club of South Haven got a good workout while raising money for a good cause.boys-girls-club Students participated in the American Heart Association’s Dodgeball For Heart event on March 12th and raised over $1200 to help fight heart disease and stroke.

“Our kids do a great job,” said Ron Ranta, who is Director at the club. “The kids have fun and learn to stay healthy,” he said. “This event has the obvious benefits of strengthening muscles, cardiovascular fitness and coordination. Apart from the health benefits, club members also gain knowledge in community service by raising money for heart disease and stroke research and education.”

This national program is sponsored by the American Heart Association and the Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance. Through the event, students learn that fighting heart disease starts as children through a balanced diet and physical activity. According to the American Heart Association, cardiovascular disease is the No.1 killer in America.
