Knights of Columbus Free Throw Contest

K-of-C-Free-Throw-ContestEach Boys’ and Girls’ basketball team that plays CYO in grades 5-8 were to hold a free throw competition during one of their practices. The winner from each team then went to the CYO Free Throw competition on Sunday at St. Bridget's in Hobart, hosted by the Knights of Columbus. Players were grouped by grade and boys were separate from girls. Each free throw specialist got two warm-up shots that didn't count. After that, they shot 10 free throws. The number each child shot was recorded to determine the winner. CYO gave medals for 1st and 2nd place.

We had a few players from Saint Paul that won medals that day. From 8th grade, Zac Sewell brought home 2nd place for the second year in a row. This year’s contest was hard fought going into an over overtime shootout. Zac made 10 of his 15 for the day. In the 7th grade, Jonathan Rogers netted 9 out of 10 baskets to take 2nd place. He was overheard saying that he already can’t wait for next year’s competition. Natalie Dowdy competed for the 7th grade girls. Sinking 3 out of 10, she took third place. In 6th grade, Evan Satoski did not place, but fought hard for his 2 baskets of 10. 5th grade proved to have tough competition. In the boy’s division, Brandon Mack hit 3 for 10, but did not place. Jake Tarnow hit 7 of his 10 to rock 2nd place. Mary Anjorin found herself amongst some tough competition as well. She hit 3 of her 10. We are proud of all our athletes.
