KV REMC Junior Board Meet Senator Charbonneau and Representative Soliday

The ten student members of the Kankakee Valley REMC Junior Board of Directors recently welcomed Senator Charbonneau and Representative Soliday to a junior board session focused on governance. Senator Charbonneau and Representative Soliday shared with the students stories about their road to public service. They explained what makes their job exciting and challenging while giving real-life examples of how a bill becomes law. In addition, they answered the students’ questions, like what their favorite ice cream is.

The Junior Board of Directors program focuses on bringing student leaders together to learn more about their community, strengthen their leadership skills, and network with business professionals. It was a privilege to have two strong community leaders attend the Junior Board session. Our locally elected legislators play a vital role in making policy decisions that strengthen our communities and support residents.

By involving the youth participating in the Junior Board of Directors program, these teens have the opportunity to meet leaders such as Charbonneau and Soliday, and to begin building a network that with other like-minded peers, business professionals, and other leaders.

“Thank you to Senator Charbonneau and Representative Soliday for spending time with our Junior Board members. We appreciate your work for rural communities and advocating for Hoosiers,” stated Amanda Steeb, communications and marketing director for Kankakee Valley REMC.

Kankakee Valley REMC is a membership cooperative delivering power to more than 18,000 residential and commercial members in the rural areas of LaPorte, Porter, Lake, Stake, Marshall, Pulaski, and St. Joseph counties.
