Lakeshore PAWS Hosts First Successful Dog Adoption Event, Plans Second

Lakeshore-Paws-foundersOn the heels of its first successful event, Lakeshore PAWS will host a second adoption event Friday, May 27, at the Harley Davidson in Valparaiso, with the goal of matching more puppies and dogs from local shelters with new owners.

Earlier this month, Lakeshore PAWS hosted its first adoption event and successfully paired twenty-one dogs from local shelters with new owners. Many of the dogs were rescued from Northwest Indiana shelters where the dogs were scheduled to be euthanized.

We can't save all the dogs in the world, but for the dogs we can save, their worlds will change forever,” Lakeshore PAWS co-founder Kim Langer said.

The organization will once again host the adoption event at the Harley Davidson store, located at 1151 Morthland Drive on U.S. 30. Canines of assorted breeds will be available for adoption from 2 to 9 p.m. on May 27. Visit www.facebook.com/LakeshorePaws to view photos and find information on all of the dogs available for adoption.

All dogs available for adoption will be spayed or neutered, updated on vaccinations—including rabies—and microchipped. In addition, each dog will be de-wormed and given treatments to prevent fleas and ticks.

To ensure that each pet is ready to join a new family, an animal behaviorist will work with the dog beforehand, and dogs also will be socialized with other dogs. The day of the event, adoption counselors will make sure that pets are placed in the perfect home for the pet and the new owner.

Recently co-founded by local business women and animal lovers, Langer and Jeanne Sommer, Lakeshore PAWS is a nonprofit organization dedicated to saving and protecting dogs and cats.

With the success of the first event, the organization feels it has already made strides toward achieving this goal, and it’s all thanks to the volunteers, the community, and to Harley Davidson of Valparaiso, Langer said.

Without all the donations and our caring volunteers, it could not have been possible,” Langer said. She added that the organization has followed up with the families that adopted the dogs from the first event, and they report that the dogs are all doing very well.

In case of inclement weather, a rain date for the adoption event is scheduled for June 3 from 2 to 9 p.m. at the Harley Davidson.
