LaPorte Symphony Enthusiastically Takes Stage at Guy Forman Amphitheater

The LaPorte Symphony had a wonderful gathering full of fans, first time viewers and of course music on Sunday evening. Michigan City’s Guy Forman Amphitheater served as an excellent acoustic setting for those playing as well as those listening.

Many who attended were avid listeners of the LaPorte Symphony and knew of their performances prior to this event. Local schools and some businesses also provided information of this astounding experience. Janusz Duzinkiewicz, a first time viewer and professor, said he was informed by Purdue University North Central through an e-mail.

Ten songs were played throughout the afternoon and into the night. Lauren Mazur started off the performance by singing the Star Spangled Banner while everyone stood, appreciating how she represented the country with her melodious voice.

“Last year, she was one of the Hoosier Star finalists and we are happy to have her with us tonight,” informed Lee Bauman, Executive Director of the LaPorte County Symphony.

Mazur also sang Life of the Party from The Wild Party musical close to the end of the event. Philip Bauman conducted the musicians with excellent leadership and informed the audience of the history involved with the music they played as well.

After dismissing everyone, Bauman shared how he felt to be onstage, “It was a lot of fun to play great music for the audience. It felt awesome and was a pleasure!”

Isabel O’Connell, one of the cello players, talked of her involvement, “It was fun- I was worried about some of it going pretty fast, but it worked out really well with the lively music.”

Forty-six talented instrumentalists were involved in this event, though with the output of sound, it seemed as if more were onstage. Felicia Thomas, a fellow viewer, enthusiastically expressed, “It was fabulous! I loved it!”
