Last fall we hired an experienced and talented professional to lead the South Shore Community Development Corporation. Michael Todd Citro joined our team seamlessly as the Community Development Director and got right to work building the new program.
He was a natural at engaging community leaders in problem-solving and brainstorming ways to increase development in some of our neighborhoods where investment can be harder to attract.
Unfortunately, Mike passed away in March from complications of a stroke. He is remembered as “intelligent, funny and charming; but most of all, he was kind. He made friends easily and kept them for a lifetime. He had a loud voice, a booming laugh, and giant hands that he would offer out to anyone in need. He could be serious about work, but he lived for the simple joys of life - a good sausage, a new craft beer, a Hail Mary pass by Rodgers to give the Packers a win.” Read Mike's obituary.
Mike’s funeral service was held in his hometown of Milwaukee. We had hoped to have a celebration of his life in Northwest Indiana shortly after, as we know that he had many local friends and colleagues. However, our communities were all quickly and unexpectedly moved into a stay-home order due to the ongoing pandemic, which delayed our in-person celebration of his life.
We are donating in Mike’s honor to the Humane Indiana Endowment Fund. Mike loved dogs and supported the organization. We encourage you, if you can, to honor Mike with a gift in his memory.
