leons worlds fastest triathlon 2014-1More than 500 triathletes will descend upon Wolf Lake Memorial Park for the annual Leon’s Triathlon, set to step off at 8:00 a.m. on Sunday, June 7. Leon’s Triathlon, known as “America’s race,” is a nationally broadcast race.

The race has become known as “America’s Race” because of its dedication to serving those who have served America. New to Leon’s Triathlon in 2015 is the addition of the U.S. Armed Forces Military Triathlon National Championship. The finest of the Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force and Coast Guard will be represented. Each branch will choose their top military team members to compete at Leon’s Triathlon. At the race, the military athletes will be evaluated to determine who will move on to represent the United States Military at the Military World Games in South Korea in October 2015.

During the Olympic-distance race, athletes will swim .09 miles, bike 24.8 miles and run 6.2 miles. Athletes will also have the option to participate in a sprint distance race, which includes a .465-mile swim, 12.5-mile biking portion and a 3.1-mile running portion. Registration is still open, and costs $155 for Olympic individual, $130 for sprint individual, $270 for an Olympic relay team and $225 for a sprint relay team. For those wishing to participate in the team challenge, a group of five to 10 athletes where the top five times are used to determine winners, registration is $125 per team member.

Demo Day, an interactive race expo, is from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Saturday, June 6. The event will showcase the latest technology in triathlon gear. Attendees will be able to try on running shoes and wet suits, and test ride bicycles. The event will also host an equipment drive supporting Tri-Masters, a not-for-profit organization that empowers at-risk children through triathlons in order to teach life lessons. Demo Day is free to attend and open to the public.
