Many believe that the start of school means the end of summer. But really, the season officially started only a little over a month ago! For us at the Greatnews.Life sites, we are definitely soaking it up and relishing in our summer vacations. If you are still celebrating summer with us, take a peek at where we have been and why we think you should go there, too.

“If you haven’t been to the Jersey Shore...it’s a must. Now, when I bring up this destination, many refer to the popular MTV show. News for you, about 99% of New Jersey is not that. The Jersey Shore has plenty of opportunities for the beach go-er. Thousands of rentable shore houses that range from shacks to mansions. There are many shore cities to visit, just find the one that best suits your lifestyle. Ocean City is dry, quiet, and peaceful. It also has a boardwalk for family fun! Sea Isle City is a little louder, full of classy bars, boutiques, and nightlife. Atlantic City is the mini Las Vegas of New Jersey, full of casinos, bars, and of course--all destinations include, THE BEACH.” -Mandy

“Earlier this summer, my boyfriend and I took a late spring break trip down to Gulf Shores, Alabama. We really love the beach but didn’t really want the expensive Florida prices. Gulf Shores was an excellent compromise, with gorgeous sandy white beaches, plenty to do, and lots of sunshine. The food was great, we indulged in oysters and fresh fish. The Alabama Gulf Shore Zoo is a must as well, offering opportunities to hold lemurs and baby kangaroos. Downtown Pensacola is worth the short drive, with a picturesque downtown and farmers markets. Gulf Shores is also in the same time zone as Northwest Indiana, making the journey a little easier. Definitely should be considered for late vacationers who need a dose of Vitamin Sea!” - Sarah D.

“My wife and I LOVE Aspen, Colorado. There’s so much to do and see in this village. From guided Jeep tours of Independence Pass, hiking at Maroon Bells and seeing some amazing wildlife up-close to shopping. Aspen, CO is a beautiful, scenic place that everyone can enjoy.” -Kole

“If you’re someone who loves a combo of natural wonders and campy, kitschy fun as much as I do, then put Gatlinburg, Tennessee on your list of summer road trip stops. The historic German mountain town is full of folk art, live music in every nook and cranny, plus your typical tourist traps (i.e. quirky museums, themed restaurants, mini golf, amusement parks, you know the kind of thing I’m talking about) but all surrounded by the most beautiful landscapes. Nestled right in Great Smoky Mountains National Park, Gatlinburg offers a perfect accessibility to hiking trails, camping grounds, and #VIEWS. At just over eight hours away, it’s a unique little destination and worth a weekend trip. Bonus: moonshine and beer abound. Just don’t stand too close to a mountain’s edge…" - Kayla

A few years ago we went with a couple we are friends with on a more local vacation to a place called Morels on the Wabash. It was a nice, close mini-vacation destination right in our backyard. Great outdoor feel with cabins you can rent with all the modern amenities. It was a retired couple who own the place. It was their dream to start a place where people can go to relax, but be close enough to a city if they wanted to go into a town to explore. -Stephanie

During the summer, my family frequently visits Maui, Hawaii. It is the perfect tropical paradise get-away and there is always so much to do. From surfing, fine dining, shopping, and more, there is never a dull moment on the island. I would highly recommend taking a trip to Maui to soak up the island sun and watch your worries fade away. -Julia

A great vacation spot that is not far, but just far enough is Gatlinburg, TN. Nestled in the Smoky Mountains, you can rent a beautiful cottage and enjoy your morning cup of joe watching the mist rise as you get ready for your day. It’s great for the whole family, or even for a quick couples weekend away. There are plenty of fun activities to do from hiking to water-rafting, to just walking around the town. There are museums, an aquarium, a sky lift, and much more. It’s also near Dollywood! Check out all they have to do at their website: https://www.gatlinburg.com/"  -Beth
