Lincoln Funeral Train Provides School Field Trip Opportunities in 2015

Indiana-Welcome-CenterA replica of the train that carried President Abraham Lincoln’s body across the United States more than 150 years ago will be at the Indiana Welcome Center later this year.

The full-size re-created train will be on display from Thursday, Oct. 8 through Sunday, Oct. 11. In addition to offering visitors the opportunity to purchase tours of the funeral train car, schools are invited to schedule student field trips.

School groups are encouraged to tour this extraordinary display on Oct. 9 from 8 a.m. to noon. Field trips with more than 10 people will cost $2 per person.

A special package in partnership with the Challenger Learning Center of Northwest Indiana is also available. Following a tour of the Lincoln funeral train, students will visit the Challenger Learning Center to experience a story-under-the-stars session about the Underground Railroad and the slaves who made their way to the north and freedom.

School groups are encouraged to tour this extraordinary display on Oct. 9 between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m., and must make reservations for the train/planetarium package by calling 219-989-3250.
