Local 1005 Members Volunteer Time and Resources to Help a Neighbor in Need

Members of the IKORCC are community-based and dedicated to all members of a community. Weekend projects where carpenters take time out of their weekend to help those in need are a common duty for an IKORCC member and this generous and caring nature was on full display as members from the South Haven community joined together to help an area resident in need.

Carpenters from Local 1005 picked up their tool belts and took time from their day off to help out a mother and her son repair their home which called for some much-needed repairs and maintenance.

Ray Perez was caring for his sick, bed-ridden mother and was unable to make the repairs to her home due to his constant attention he gave to his mother. The home desperately needed new window replacements due to their inability to properly keep the home warm and the quickly approaching upcoming winter season.

Local 1005 Vice President Sandy Hennrich assembled this project when she heard of the Perez family's struggle. After assembling a team of willing volunteers, she was notified that Von Tobels Lumber also expressed interest in helping out the Perez's and offered them a discount on the window price so that the windows would be much more affordable.

When the local carpenters stepped in they began to work immediately, spending the day taking out the old windows and replacing them with new, weatherproof windows. While the process was long, all of the carpenters involved were happy to put their skills to work in an effort to help a family in need.

This is what we live for getting out there and helping local families in need," said Hennrich. "This is our community and our obligation to help. It was a wonderful day and beautiful weather for this event."

The IKORCC wishes to thank those who took their time to continue supporting the community and offering their skills and expertise whenever needed.
