Local Gymnasts Bring Home National Title

local-gymnasts-win-national-titleJohn Roethlisberger (former Olympian and co-owner of Flip Fest Camp) was this year’s celebrity guest and emcee of the National Judges Cup gymnastics meet. The event was hosted in Indianapolis this year and teams from 27 states participated in the weekend event. Two area gymnasts, who train at Indiana Elite Gymnastics (formerly Lisa’s Gymnastics) brought home the gold to Northwest Indiana. They are part of the level 6 team.

Alexis Avey, 10, is a student at the Duneland School Corp. Alexis, a level 6 gymnast, secured 1st place in vault for her age division. She also medaled in bars, beam and floor and placed 4th in the all around. Alexis has been a gymnast since the age of 2 and began competing at age 6.

Taylor Burhans, 11, is a student in the Portage Township School Corp. Taylor was also the level 6 vault champion for her age division. She also placed 3rd on bars and secured 5th place in the all around. Taylor has been in gymnastics for 9 years and has also been competing since she was 6 years old.

The team has had a successful season so far this year, securing many 1st place titles as well.
