The March of Dimes in Northwest Indiana announced that Porter County physician Dr. Elizabeth Campbell has taken on the role of the Porter County March for Babies Chair. Dr Campbell is a pediatrician and partner at Associated Pediatricians and is also a proud mother to two children, one of which was born prematurely, making her commitment to the good health of moms and babies personal and meaningful.

March for Babies is the largest annual fundraising event for the March of Dimes. Nearly 4 million babies are born in the United States each year, and the March of Dimes has helped each and every one through 75 years of research, education, vaccines and breakthroughs.

As the walk Chair, Dr. Campbell will play an integral role in raising awareness and funds to advance the scientific research and educational programs at the core of the March of Dimes effort to find causes and preventions for preterm birth and birth defects.

“Working with the March of Dimes is a real honor. March for Babies gives everyone in our community the chance to work together for stronger, healthier babies and make a difference in the lives of millions of babies,” said Dr. Campbell, “I can’t think of a more important cause than healthy babies. As a physician, I know that preventing prematurity can have a dramatically positive effect on the health care world and the families in our communities. In addition, as the mother to a premature infant, I know firsthand how important this cause is to moms and their babies.”

Dr. Campbell continued, “Premature birth is the leading cause of newborn death. In Porter County, one in eight babies is born prematurely, and that’s just not acceptable. We need leaders in our community working together to help moms have full-term pregnancies and healthy babies.”

“I couldn’t be happier having Dr. Campbell serve as our walk Chair,” said Briana Stimson, Community Director for the March of Dimes Northwest Indiana Division. “I am sure that Dr. Campbell will bring the same drive, dedication and passion that made her a well-respected member of the community to her efforts on behalf of March for Babies. I know her contribution will go a long way to making this year’s event an unqualified success.”

Northwest Indiana residents can sign up today at marchforbabies.org and start a team with co-workers, family and friends. The event, which will be held this year on April 27 at Old Fairgrounds Park in Valparaiso, is a part of three March for Babies events in Northwest Indiana. The other two are held in La Porte and Highland.
