Low-Dose CT Lung Cancer Screenings Offered at Methodist Hospitals During Lung Cancer Awareness Month

rot1November is Lung Cancer Awareness Month. To help raise awareness about lung cancer Methodist Hospitals is offering Low-Dose Computer Tomography (CT) Lung Cancer screenings for $49. Low-Dose CT Lung Cancer Screenings are now covered by Medicare and most insurance plans.

Recent research found that Low-Dose CT lung cancer screenings helped reduce mortality among those at high risk for developing lung cancer by 20%. According to the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services, the eligibility criteria for Low-Dose CT lung screenings include:

  • 55 to 74 years of age
  • 30 pack-year history, (the number of packs smoked daily multiplied by the number of years as a smoker)
  • Current smokers or former smokers who quit within the last 15 years

The National Comprehensive Cancer Network includes a second, high risk group consisting of people age 50 and over with greater than 20-year pack history and an additional risk factor, such as:

  • Occupational or radon exposure
  • A first-degree family history of the disease
  • A chronic lung condition
