Lynn’s Bedroom City: Family Owned Since the Beginning

Lynns-bedroom-portage-1There are many things that go into making a business successful: quality products, reliable employees, great bosses and management, and memorable customer interactions are some of the things that need to be factored in. Upon walking into the Portage location of Lynn's Bedroom City, I was fortunate enough to witness all of these things happen at once, in one place.

I was immediately greeted and offered assistance. I glanced around at all of the comfy beds and fantastic furniture and I was tempted to invest in a new bedroom set. But I stopped myself for two reasons: Not sure how my boyfriend might feel if I redecorated the house without him, and I had a job to do. I was there to interview the boss: Scott Lynn.

Lynn and I sat on one of the couches that sits in the large showroom. He is calm and comfortably in his element. Lynn has been selling mattresses since he was 17, following in his father's footsteps. Currently, he and his brother are partners in the business.

Lynns-bedroom-portage"This is a place where you can get the best selection of the best quality mattresses," Lynn said. "And what makes us unique is that instead of having bits and pieces, we like to show entire collections. That way, our customers can have access to the pieces and they get the full range of choices."

On top of mattresses, Lynn's sells bedroom furniture. Displays are set up all over the store of what a potential bedroom setting would look like with different mattresses and bedroom sets. At the Portage location, there is also a large selection of living room furniture. Couches, sofas, love seats, recliners, coffee tables, lamps, etc. are strategically set up to appeal to the eye of the customer.

Not all locations are the same. All of the stores have pretty much the same mattress selection. Depending on the size, different locations carry furniture as well. There are six locations all together in Merrillville (two stores, one being a discount center), Schererville, Valparaiso, Demotte, and Portage.

For a business to thrive, not only must the community invest in it, but the business must reciprocate and invest in the community.

"We do all of the things that we can do for the communities that we serve," Lynn said. "We built our business around the customer and they give to us we want to give to them and the things that are important to them."

People who have gone into the store are pleasantly surprised by the large selection and they like the look of the store. Lots of compliments go around about the good products and the layout. The Lynn's Bedroom City website looks good, too. Anyone can go online and see all of the promotions, financing options, and products that Lynn's offers complete with prices, product descriptions, and photos. Lynn's can also be found on Facebook.
