The mission of the Valpo Parks Foundation is to provide opportunities for the community to support the continuing legacy of high quality experiences in Valparasio. On Thursday, May 9, the Foundation and more than 140 friends honored three people who have taken that opportunity and assisted the Parks system in countless ways.
Nancy and Bob Urschel were given the “Art & Irene Malasto Legends” award for their unwavering dedication to Parks programs, facilities and events. Nancy has also served two terms on the Valpo Parks Foundation Board of Directors from 1997-2004, which included many hours of fundraising events and fulfilling Board support and Parks projects.
Bill Alexa received the “Legendary Friend” award, having served on the Park Board of Commissioners from 1980-1988. He continued his generosity by becoming a Parks Foundation Board of Directors member immediately after and volunteered with the 501(c)(3) Foundation for the next 10 years, serving as a driving force behind many Parks Foundation projects.
“Celebrating Friends & Legends” is an annual recognition of service event, held in May and hosted by the Endowment Committee of the Valpo Parks Foundation. 22 new charter members if the Foundation’s EverGreen Society were also introduced at the event.
