Mark Thiros Appointed to Valparaiso Utilities Board

Valparaiso-Vibrant-VisionaryMark Thiros has been appointed to the Valparaiso Utilities Board, beginning Dec. 1, announced Mayor Jon Costas. Thiros is a lifelong resident of Northwest Indiana and has lived in Porter County since 1997. He is an attorney and partner with Thiros & Stracci in Merrillville, serving clients in the area of personal injury law.

We’re pleased to have someone with Mark’s expertise and passion for the community as part of our board,” said Mayor Jon Costas. As a resident of Aberdeen, Thiros is the first member of the Utilities Board to live outside of city limits. The City Council recently approved a change in the membership guidelines, opening membership to those within the service territory without requiring residency within the city. “I think it makes for a better, stronger board when all areas are represented,” said Mayor Jon Costas.

The Utilities Board is a five-member, bipartisan board, which manages Valparaiso City Utilities, including the Departments of Water Works, Water Reclamation, and Stormwater. The board oversees budgets, policies and operations. “I look forward to contributing as our community continues to grow. I’m eager to learn more and to work to meet the needs of both the community and the environment,” said Thiros.
