Meet Elaine Burris of the FirstLight Homecare Family

Since June 2015, Elaine Burris has called FirstLight HomeCare her second home. She came to FirstLight after deciding that it was time to make a career change.

"I worked at a marketing company for a few years and I decided that I wanted to put the degree that I earned in college to work,” Burris said.

Burris got her degree in Healthcare Management from the University of Phoenix. She has always wanted to work in the healthcare field and help people.

“I grew up with a small, close-knit family. Longevity ran in the family and watching what they went through as they grew older made me want to help people,” Burris said.

So Burris began her career transition and found FirstLight through an online search. She liked what she saw immediately and did more research on the company. She liked that owners Michelle and Jim Alex were local people who really cared about their clients and their employees.

“I’m not just a number in a big corporation. What I do matters. And I really like that here, they have enough confidence in me to give me a lot of responsibility and that feels good,” Burris said. “We have a blast. Working for Michelle and Jim is like having an extended family. They are so easy to talk to.”

Burris does more behind-the-scenes work at FirstLight; recruiting, training people in company policies and procedures, and making sure that all the unseen tasks get taken care of.

“It’s fast-paced here but light-hearted,” Burris said. “You have to have the right heart to work here.”

Outside of work Burris spoils her two dogs, Daisy and Samson. She also spends as much time as she can with her friends and family and is quite the scrapbooker.
