Jessica Rogers has been a Chiropractic Assistant at Porterfield Family Chiropractic since April 2016. Her past work experiences make her a perfect fit to care for patients of all ages.
Her favorite part of the job is seeing the change in patients from when they come in to when they leave. Jessica gets to see the people she has worked with walk out the door feeling better about their bodies and overall wellness. Part of her job is getting to know each patient, a benefit for them and for the office. Dr. Ryan Porterfield can help these regular visitors more since they know what treatments they have tried and what their exact diagnosis is.
“I genuinely care about people,” said Jessica. “I love to see them - when they’ve come here in pain and aching - leave with a smile.”
The medical field has always held an interest for Jessica. Her passion for taking care of people made her want to be a medical assistant, until taking care of her two children became a priority over an externship.
She discovered chiropractic medicine while in school for medical billing.
“I never knew I’d like chiropractic so much. It’s so interesting to see how chiropractic can help your life in more ways than back pain and headaches,” she explained.
Chiropractic can cure chronic stomach aches and heavy periods. It has been used to readjust the body after childbirth- both for mothers and their infants.
“There’s nerves that connect, through the spine, to other organs,” Jessica explained. “There’s a subluxation in your body, which means displacement that will pinch your nerve and not allow the brain to connect with the body properly.”
Not everyone realizes the benefits of chiropractic therapy or even that it exists. Jessica used to be one of these people, but now that she knows, she is fascinated. She would like to become a chiropractor one day.
“It never feels like work,” she said.
Part of that has to do with her co-workers. They are like a second family, always helping each other out. Each has their own unique set of skills.
Jessica learned attention to detail as a Personnel Specialist in the US Navy. Her later job in childcare at the Valparaiso Family YMCA taught her patience and how to handle people when they are feeling poorly.
As an assistant at Porterfield she schedules people for appointments, puts patients on therapy, and gets to see her clients leave the office feeling better than when they walked in.
