Melissa Pellar is Hospital’s November Ambassador of 2015

Melissa-PellarMelissa Pellar, who for 10 years has been employed by the hospital in its endoscopy lab and surgery departments, is Franciscan St. Anthony Health-Michigan City’s November Ambassador of the Month.

The award has been presented by the hospital’s Social and Recognition Committee since 1988 and recognizes employees who exhibit the mission and values of Franciscan Alliance, which include compassion for those in need, respect for life and the dignity of mankind, wellness and prevention of illness, restoration to health and acceptance of death as the final step toward wholeness. Recipients also have demonstrated courtesy, the proper attitude and enthusiasm for their work.

Pellar, who resides with her husband and two sons in LaPorte, was nominated for the award by a physician, who said she performs her duties above and beyond expectations and lives the Franciscan mission.

Pellar said he was “shocked, pleasantly surprised and humbled” to receive the recognition.

“I work with a bunch of great people – physicians, techs and nurses,” she said.

Pellar loves to read and since 2005, has walked for autism awareness. She supports the Mended Little Hearts of Chicago organization, which, Pellar said, has greatly helped her family.

In recognition of the honor, Pellar, as are all Ambassador recipients, was honored with a special billboard display for the month, a privileged parking spot, an Ambassador badge holder, a photo on the Ambassador of the Month wall that displays the previous 12 months’ winners, and $150 cash.
