Memorial Day Offers Opportunity for Reflection

Duty-Sacrifice-MonumentThe City of Valparaiso, the Parks Department and the Parks Foundation encourage families, friends, and individuals this Memorial Day holiday weekend, to remember those who have served and given the ultimate sacrifice. The City will hold a Memorial Day observance at the Service Memorial at Foundation Meadows on Friday, May 24 at 12:15 PM. World War II veterans Bill Wellman and John Wolf will speak briefly on this reflective occasion.

Memorial Day weekend ceremonies have been commemorated on Friday at the Service Memorial since 2003. It is a reminder that, in addition to the unofficial start of the summer, Memorial weekend is a time to remember those that have served and are serving to give us the opportunity to experience the freedoms we enjoy. The Valparaiso Service Memorial thanks and encourages acts of selflessness, with the most important monument being that of Duty & Sacrifice honoring those that have given their lives in the line of duty.

All citizens of all ages are invited to this ceremony as well as to others that will be held throughout the weekend to honor our military veterans. The City of Valparaiso and the Parks Department and Foundation wish everyone a safe and enjoyable Memorial Day Holiday Weekend.
