Memorial Opera House Foundation Hosts 50’s Sock Hop

The Memorial Opera House Foundation is holding a 50’s Sock Hop on Friday, July 22 from 6:00 to 10:00 pm at the William E. Urschel Pavilion in Valparaiso’s Central Park Plaza. The Sock Hop proceeds will benefit the MOH Foundation.

The Sock Hop is a fantastic opportunity to get in the mood for MOH’s summer production of GREASE, which starts Friday, July 15. Immerse yourself in the era with with 50’s attire, early rock n’ roll music, specialty cocktails and some delicious food from a local Valparaiso restaurant.

Chicago’s Neverly Brothers will be getting everyone out on the dance floor with a retro-rock music performance. The Neverly Brothers are a national touring concert theater headline retro-rock revue. Band members will be dressed in period matching suits from each era in rock history. The Neverly Brothers will play early hits by Jerry Lee Lewis, Chuck Berry, Little Richard, Buddy Holly, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Kinks, The Dave Clark Five and other rock n’ roll artists from 1955 to 1965.

“We are excited to host the Neverly Brothers at the first Sock Hop that’s happened in Porter County in years,” said Foundation President, Jacki Stutzman. “The response to Grease has been huge and we wanted to create an event where the community could be part of the action. Events like this allow us to help the Opera House bring in more shows and events of this caliber.”

This event isn’t your average fundraiser. Along with the Neverly Brothers, there will also be a Harley Davidson classic car show.

“Relive the past, come in 50’s attire and try your moves with a hula hoop contest. We will even have our very own Vince Fontaine to judge the dance competition. It is sure to be a night to remember.” said Camie Marfoe, event organizer.

Bring your dancing shoes and your appetite, Parea Restaurant, a Greek inspired restaurant in downtown Valparaiso, will be catering the event. There will also be a cash bar with specialty drinks inspired by the 50’s era, including the Pink Lady and Thunder Road. A portion of the proceeds from the specialty drinks will go toward the Memorial Opera House Foundation.

Those interested in heading back in time to the 50’s for a dance off and a trip through the history of rock n’ roll should don their 50’s attire (or just casual) and head over to Central Park Plaza for food, drinks and good times.
