Methodist Hospitals Foundation Held its 4th Annual Golf Outing at Innsbrook Country Club

Nothing greets golfers better than clear skies, 0% chance of rain, and 85 degree weather! Methodist Hospitals Foundation held its 4th Annual Golf Outing at Innsbrook Country Club, located in Merrillville.

The day consisted lunch, followed by the tee off and an afternoon of golfing. During the evening, there was a cocktail reception followed by dinner and awards. In the first year of the golf outing, there were 52 golfers. This year, 123 golfers were registered to play. Each of the 18 holes were endorsed by a different sponsor.

"In its almost 100 year history, Methodist never had a foundation until about 4 years ago. Essentially, we raise money for the different needs of the hospital," Executive Director Robert Hanrahan stated. "It's really about gathering the community through philanthropy and it's a great way to help the hospital. In the past, one of the things we've done is give money to the pediatric unit for toys. While something like toys seem so simple, it truly does go a long way."

The Methodist Hospitals Foundations has done many things to give back to patients. In the past, they have given Methodist Hospital money to purchase the most advanced bassinets available for hospital nurseries, enhance pediatric services by donating money for toys, provide free mammography screenings for women who cannot afford them, and assist patients who get discharged from cardiac care but cannot afford medication for the first month.

When I spoke with Development Coordinator Maria Diaz, she had nothing but positive things to say about those helping at the event, "This event truly could not have happened without the amazing volunteers. They're the ones who deserve all credit and recognition."

Some of the prizes were gift baskets which included some products that were donated by sponsors. There was also personalized merchandise and even a Lexus that one lucky participant could win if he or she got a hole-in-one at the Lexus hole! Just like the Masters Tournament, instead of a green jacket, the winner of the tournament gets a blue jacket.
