Methodist Hospitals Foundation Holds Golf Outing to Give High Risk Babies a Fighting Chance

As the summer weather comes out, so do the golfers. For supporters of the Methodist Hospitals Foundation, Monday morning was the perfect opportunity to enjoy a game of golf while supporting a worthy cause.

The foundation hosts two signature events every year, one of which being a golf outing. Last year’s outing raised over $50,000 for a new trauma unit. To mark the sixth annual outing, this year’s proceeds will help Methodist Hospitals “Give High Risk Babies a Fighting Chance.”

With a goal of raising $60,000, the foundation will support Northlake and Southlake’s neonatal intensive care unit and developmental unit. Though not as commonly heard of, the developmental unit is vital to the hospital's’ goals. After babies are discharged, the hospitals offer two free years of developmental screenings, occupational and physical therapists, physicians, and speech therapists.

“Last year our neonatal unit served 230 babies, all of them high risk, many of them premature,” said Judy Lindsey, Executive Director of Methodist Hospitals Foundation.

“Because technology changes, we always need support to stay on top. All of these services are pretty expensive and so when we have events like this, we not only have fun, but we can link it back to a purpose.”

Earle Hites, who heard about the annual golf outings through his legal work with the hospital, has been supporting the foundation for six years now.

Hites said, “I like to sponsor and play because the foundation supports the hospital programs for the betterment of the community. The event is very well organized and Innsbrook Country Club is beautiful.”

When the clock struck noon, 132 golfers took to the course with opportunities to putt for a Samsung TV. Silent auction items including Cubs and Sox tickets were also donated.

“The event has been growing every year,” said Event Chairman Jeffrey Draper. “I think people are community-minded and they like not only a day of golf, but also the chance to help a good cause.”

The event would not have been possible without the support of the following sponsors:
