Middle School Football Cross Town Classic Takes Center Stage (with Photos)

The two Valparaiso Middle Schools squared off Tuesday, as Thomas Jefferson took on Benjamin Franklin under the lights of Viking Stadium at Valparaiso High School.

The Benjamin Franklin running game was too much, as they jumped out to an early lead, and held on for a 37 to 14 victory.

The game wasn't the entire story, however. Varsity football coach Mark Hoffman before the game said, "It is a beautiful thing; win lose or draw, at the end of this game they are no longer rivals, they are one team. They're the future of our program."

After the hard fought game, the two sides shook hands, and met at midfield. They listened to a speech by Coach Hoffman, uniting the two programs.

Coach Hoffman told the players to prioritize their time, take care of family and school first. He went on to implore the students to stay out of trouble, work hard, and dedicate themselves to their sports and extra curricular activities. He concluded his speech driving home the point that together the united Valparaiso Vikings can accomplish great things, through their dedication.

"You have to love it," said a smiling Coach Hoffman as he left the field, "This is our future!"
