Region residents have a low-cost, convenient option for school, sports and camp physicals this summer in Midwest Express Clinic.
MEC has four Northwest Indiana locations in Munster, Hammond, Schererville and Crown Point. A new Midwest Express Clinic will open in Merrillville this fall with one in Dyer coming soon after.
No one seeking a physical is turned away at MEC. Paperwork is even provided to be signed by Midwest Express Clinic staff. Just bring photo identification and insurance paperwork according to Nicole Hawkins, a Clinical Director for Midwest Express Clinic.
“We’re the most accessible option with multiple locations and a good price (for physicals),” Hawkins said. “We’re able to get these patients in and out, into their school or sport and meet their deadlines. We don’t require weeks of notice. You’re able to walk in anytime to get this taken care of. We’re always here.”
All Midwest Express Clinic locations are open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., seven days a week. Patients can walk in for an appointment or check online at midwestexpressclinic.com.
A virtually-registered patient will find his or her name on the kiosk in the clinic when they arrive. It can shorten wait times significantly, Hawkins said. Much of the pre-visit work can be out of the way before patients even arrive.
“We’re noticing more people checking in online now than ever,” Hawkins said. “People want to pick a time, show up and be seen rather than wait in a lobby for any more time than they need to.”
About 18 percent of patients choose to check in online, Hawkins said. MEC expects the majority to be doing so by the end of the year.
Midwest Express Clinics offers coupons on its website, including one for school, sports and camp physicals for only $25. Hawkins said each MEC office does 10 to 15 physicals per day during the summer months.
“We’re really just trying to be a low-cost option for patients and these coupons really allow patients to visit us affordably,” Hawkins said.
Other popular coupons include $10 B12 shots, $15 flu shots and $60 work and employment physicals.
“We have a huge following of patients who come in for those B12 shots,” Hawkins said. “It can be a great immune boost. It’s just an overall great supplement and patients can come in for one on a monthly basis.”
