With basketball season starting to get into full swing, both Alonzo Stafford of Central Christian and Nicki Monahan of IU Northwest were named A.I.I. Conference Athletes of the Week on Monday.
Monahan, a junior out of Portage, Ind., began with 22 points, five rebounds and three assists in a loss to No. 3 St. Xavier, and she'd key an impressive victory later in the week with 18 points, six rebounds and three helpers in a 73-66 win over ninth-ranked Marian.
Monahan is the second IUN athlete to take home weekly honors this year, joining men's basketball player Quentin Palmer.
Meanwhile, Alonzo Stafford, who has enjoyed an impressive start to the 2015-16 season, kept things going with a 29-point, 17-rebound outburst in a win over Bethany before returning to the court with 12 points and 10 boards against Bethel. The Houston native is now averaging nearly 18 points per game on the season while connecting over 60% of his shot attempts.
