Montessori Parent Demonstrates Martial Arts

Patrick-RobinsonMontessori School of Valparaiso Preschool students were shown some basic Jiu-jitsu moves and escape techniques by the father of one of their classmates, Patrick Robinson, during their month long curriculum on Asia. Mr. Robinson is the owner and chief instructor at Choke-U on Lincolnway, and has been teaching martial arts in NW Indiana and Chicago since 1991. He holds black belts in numerous martial arts including Japanese and Brazilian Jiu-jitsu, but currently devotes his time to teaching adults and children, and developing his skills in Brazilian Jiu-jitsu and Mixed Martial Arts. Patrick is an active international Jiu-jitsu competitor and holds many titles, including 3x European BJJ Champion, 2x International Masters & Seniors Middleweight and Absolute Champion, No-Gi Masters & Seniors World Champion, and 4x Pan American Jiu-jitsu silver medalist.

The Montessori students were given the opportunity to learn and experience proper kicking and hitting techniques as well as some techniques for escaping a person’s tight grasp on their arm. The Robinsons’ son Lachlan, is their third child to attend the Montessori School of Valparaiso, at 505 Marquette Street, and he assisted his father in demonstrating some advanced escape skills.
