More than $300,000 in scholarships awarded to high school seniors granted admission to IU Northwest

Recent event at the Gary Genesis Center coincides with key deadlines for additional scholarship opportunities for incoming students

Admissions counselors from Indiana University Northwest evaluated applications for more than 200 high school seniors attending the Infinite Scholars Scholarship Fair at the Gary Genesis Convention Center.

During the September fair, a partnership between the Urban League of Northwest Indiana and the Infinite Scholars Program, IU Northwest admissions counselors provided on-site decisions as well as awarded scholarships to 44 students totaling $384,000 over four years.

Five students were recipients of the prestigious Chancellor’s Associate Valedictorian/Salutatorian Scholarship, which cover tuition, fees, and books for four years.

“We participate in this exciting event for high achieving students each year,” said Dorothy Frink, director of admissions. “It’s just one of the many ways we bring scholarships directly to local students.”

Deadline nears for micro-scholarship opportunity

According to Frink, IU Northwest offers more than 200 scholarships covering a variety of degree programs to students every year. One financial incentive recently introduced by the university for high school students is the RaiseMe initiative, designed to help traditional incoming students start earning scholarship dollars as early as ninth grade.

The Office of Admissions will begin awarding micro-scholarships promised to applicants for the fall of 2020, via the RaiseMe platform once they are formally admitted to the university.

RaiseMe is an incentive program that enables more than 250 participating universities to assign monetary values to achievements and college-readiness activities achieved while in high school or community college. The only requirement to begin earning rewards and claiming them upon admission, is graduating with a 3.0 grade point average.

To participate, students need only create an account at iun.edu/raiseme and log their achievements dating back to ninth grade.

For those who intend to enroll at IU Northwest for the fall 2020 semester, students must complete their RaiseMe portfolio by November 15, 2019 and be admitted to IU Northwest by December 1 to be eligible for their scholarship. Once enrolled, the total amount a student earns is divided and allocated equally per year as long as the student maintains a 2.8 GPA.

Transfer and adult students also eligible for scholarships

IU Northwest also offers scholarships to transfer and adult students. For those who intend to enroll at IU Northwest for the spring and fall 2020 semester, students must complete being admitted to IU Northwest by December 1 to be eligible for scholarships.
